Insider tips

Know before you go.

01

Timing & Crowds

  • NRT T2 international peaks 7pm–11pm for long-haul to Europe and the US. JAL First Class Lounge is calmer pre-peak (5pm–7pm).
  • T1 ANA Sat 5 lounges track ANA evening long-haul departures — usually 7pm–10pm. ANA Lounge Sat 2 (opened 2022) is consistently less crowded.
  • Cathay Pacific Lounge tracks CX departure timing — typically 6pm. Off-peak is genuinely calm.
02

Maximising Priority Pass at NRT

  • Narita has a distinctive PP-eligible restaurant program — present PP at YAKISUKI YANMA (T1), TATSU (T1), or Teppanyaki Dotonbori Kurita (T2) for a complimentary set menu. Better food than most PP lounges.
  • IASS Superior NOA is the ONLY T1 airside PP option — useful for transit pax without Star/SkyTeam status.
  • IASS Superior KoCoo (T2 4F airside) is the strongest PP+DragonPass combo at NRT.
03

Terminal Navigation

  • T1 and T2 are not connected airside. Free shuttle bus runs every 5-7 minutes between terminals — about 10-min ride. T3 (LCC) is a 15-minute walk from T2 or a free shuttle.
  • T1 has 3 satellites (Sat 2, 3, 5) connected to the main building by underground walkways. Allow 8-12 min from immigration to satellite gates.
  • JAL operates from T2 (international and most domestic). ANA operates from T1 (international and domestic). Don't confuse — verify your terminal.
04

Japanese Cuisine in Lounges

  • ANA Suite Lounge (T1 Sat 5) has a sushi bar with fresh nigiri made on-site — one of the best Japanese lounge experiences globally.
  • JAL First Class Lounge (T2) has hot kaiseki rotation and a sushi station — comparable to ANA Suite. Both worth seeking if eligible.
  • PP-eligible restaurants (YAKISUKI YANMA, TATSU, Teppanyaki Dotonbori Kurita) serve actual restaurant-quality Japanese meals — far above typical lounge buffet level.

Yes — three IASS lounges (Superior KoCoo at T2 airside, Executive at T2 landside, Superior NOA at T1 airside). JAL First Class Lounge at T2 (Level 3 & 4) is the oneworld flagship — remodeled 2019, restricted to JAL First / JMB Diamond / JGC Premier / oneworld Emerald on JAL. ANA Suite Lounge at T1 Satellite 5 is the Star Alliance equivalent. Both feature sushi stations and Japanese kaiseki rotation.

JAL flies from T2 (oneworld + most JAL domestic). ANA flies from T1 (Star Alliance + ANA domestic). Star Alliance carriers generally use T1; oneworld and JAL use T2; SkyTeam splits between T1 (KE, CI) and T2. T3 is LCC only (Jetstar Japan, Spring Japan).

ANA Arrival Lounge sells access for arriving premium ANA passengers. Airline lounges do NOT sell walk-in.

Three current participants: Meat Dishes YAKISUKI YANMA (T1), Japanese Grill TATSU (T1), Teppanyaki Dotonbori Kurita (T2). Often better food than the lounges themselves.

T1 and T2 are NOT connected airside. Free shuttle bus runs every 5-7 minutes between terminals — about 10-minute ride. You re-clear security on arrival at the other terminal. Allow 30+ minutes for inter-terminal transfers including walks.

ANA operates three T1 lounges: ANA Suite Lounge (Sat 5 — ANA First / Diamond / Star First on ANA, top tier), ANA Lounge Sat 5 (Star Alliance Gold on ANA, business tier), ANA Lounge Sat 2 (opened 2022 — alternative Star Gold business tier, less crowded). Plus the ANA Arrival Lounge for arriving premium passengers.
