About FBM

Lubumbashi International Airport (FBM), also known as Luano, is the main gateway to the southern Katanga region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the country's second city. Its lounge scene is small: we track three lounges, all in the single main terminal. The Malabar Business Travel Lounge is the contract lounge, open to DragonPass and Priority Pass members and also sold as a walk-in day pass — it sits landside, before security, near entrance 2, and offers the fullest spread with a hot buffet and bar. The Jeffery Lounge and the VIP Luano Lounge serve Star Alliance Gold status holders and business-class passengers. If you don't hold a membership or status, the walk-in day pass at Malabar is your only pay-per-visit route. Because coverage is modest, confirm your access before you travel and mind each lounge's opening hours.

How we compile this guide

Sourced, never sponsored.

This guide is compiled from airline, alliance and lounge-operator sources plus published access rules from Priority Pass and DragonPass — we haven't independently visited every Lubumbashi Airport lounge yet. Nothing here is a paid placement, and the guide is updated as lounges open, close, renovate or change access policies. Read more about how we verify lounge data.

Best Overall

Malabar Business Travel Lounge

The Malabar Business Travel Lounge is the most accessible option at FBM — it takes DragonPass and Priority Pass and also sells a walk-in day pass, so you can get in without airline status. It sits landside near entrance 2 in the main terminal, with a hot buffet, bar and air conditioning.

Best for Pay-Per-Visit

Malabar Business Travel Lounge

Malabar is also the only Lubumbashi lounge you can simply pay to enter. A day pass runs around 48 USD at the door, and it's open all day, making it the dependable choice when you don't hold a frequent-flyer tier or business-class ticket.

Best for Star Alliance

Jeffery Lounge

The Jeffery Lounge serves Star Alliance Gold members and business-class passengers, and is the better-equipped of the two status lounges — with a business centre, conference room, printing and TV alongside light refreshments. Open daytime hours only.

Access guide

How to get into lounges at FBM.

Lubumbashi has just three lounges, and the access split is simple. The Malabar Business Travel Lounge is the contract lounge — open to DragonPass and Priority Pass members and also sold as a walk-in day pass. The Jeffery and VIP Luano lounges are for Star Alliance Gold status holders and business-class passengers. Check whether your route is landside (Malabar) before you clear security.

Lounge membership

DragonPass

DragonPass is accepted at the Malabar Business Travel Lounge, the landside contract lounge in the main terminal. It's one of the two memberships that open Malabar without a separate day pass.

DragonPass
Lounge membership

Priority Pass

Priority Pass also gets you into the Malabar Business Travel Lounge. As with DragonPass, present your membership card with your boarding pass; coverage at FBM is limited to this single lounge.

Walk-in day pass

If you don't hold a lounge membership or airline status, the Malabar Business Travel Lounge sells a walk-in day pass — around 48 USD per guest at the door. It's the only pay-per-visit lounge at Lubumbashi.

Business class ticket

A business-class ticket on an eligible carrier also reaches the Jeffery and VIP Luano lounges. This is the simplest route if you're flying premium out of Lubumbashi rather than relying on a frequent-flyer tier.

Star Alliance
Insider tips

Know before you go.

01

Know your access route

  • Only three lounges operate at FBM, so match your access before you arrive — Malabar for memberships and walk-ins, Jeffery and VIP Luano for Star Alliance Gold and business class.
  • DragonPass and Priority Pass both open Malabar; if you carry either, that's your simplest way in.
  • Without status or a membership, a walk-in day pass at Malabar is the only pay-per-visit option.
02

Landside vs airside

  • The Malabar Business Travel Lounge is landside, before the security check near entrance 2 — settle in there before you clear the checkpoint.
  • Use it for a meal and a rest, then leave time to get through security and to your gate.
03

Mind the opening hours

  • The Jeffery Lounge keeps daytime hours (roughly 08:00–17:00), so it may be closed for early-morning or late-evening departures.
  • The VIP Luano Lounge runs around the clock, a better bet outside normal business hours.
  • Malabar is open all day, useful across most departure banks.
04

Set your expectations

  • Lubumbashi's lounges are modest, practical spaces rather than flagship lounges — comfortable seating, refreshments and air conditioning.
  • Malabar offers the fullest spread, with a hot buffet and a bar; the status lounges lean lighter on food.
  • Give yourself extra time at the airport, as processing at FBM can be slow at peak.
