Qantas's main Sydney business lounge is closed for a full rebuild. Here is the temporary lounge you use instead, and what the new one promises.
The Qantas International Business Lounge in Sydney is mid-rebuild: the main Level 3 lounge closed on 8 December 2025, and a temporary lounge opened in late December 2025. The temporary lounge is airside on Departures Level 2, entered from the terminal near Gate 24, opposite the Plaza Premium Lounge. It opens daily from 05:00 to 22:00, and Qantas lists barista coffee, lounge dining, refreshments and Wi-Fi. Australian Frequent Flyer puts its capacity at about 150, and at peak times Qantas has directed some customers to partner lounges, including Air New Zealand's and Plaza Premium. On 28 August 2026 the Qantas CEO said the new lounge will open in time for the 2026 peak season, brought forward from early 2027. Executive Traveller reports it will have an outdoor terrace of about 150 m², a U-shaped bar, about 30% more seats and a Neil Perry show kitchen. Our view: the temporary lounge does the basics, but for a long-haul departure the new lounge is the one worth waiting for.
Crowding · busy
Fine for emails over a coffee with the lounge Wi-Fi, but the temporary space is busy at peak times, so it is not the place for a long work session.
Qantas lists barista coffee, lounge dining and refreshments for the temporary lounge. It covers a meal and a coffee before your flight, but the bigger dining offer, including a Neil Perry show kitchen, is planned for the new lounge.
After passport control and security in Terminal 1, stay on Departures Level 2 and head toward Gate 24. The temporary lounge entrance is in the terminal near Gate 24, opposite the Plaza Premium Lounge.
