How we review

Fact-checked, never sponsored.

Our editorial team reviews every Shanghai Pudong International Airport lounge against first-hand visit notes, verified Google Maps ratings, and official access rules from Priority Pass, DragonPass and the airline alliances. Editor's picks are independent — never paid placements — and this guide is updated as lounges open, close, renovate or change access policies.

Insider tips

Know before you go.

01

Timing & Crowds

  • T2 No.77 China Eastern peaks 8-10pm for long-haul departures to North America. Pre-peak (6-8pm) is calmer.
  • Cathay Lounge T2 tracks CX HKG/JFK departures — usually empty between flights.
  • Air China First Class Lounge 4F is consistently quieter than the standard CA Lounge 2F.
02

Satellite Terminal Strategy

  • Most PVG flights depart from the satellite terminals (S1/S2). Reach them via people mover from T1 or T2 after security.
  • Allow 20 minutes from T2 security to reach S2 (MRT-style people mover + walk).
  • Use satellite-terminal lounges (No.120, 135, 190) to avoid backtracking to T1/T2 main.
03

Maximising DragonPass at PVG

  • DragonPass is the broader contract program here vs Priority Pass.
  • The numbered VIP lounges (No.9, 39, 69, 120, 135, 190) all run on DragonPass.
  • Match the lounge to your gate — Gate 69? Use VIP Lounge No.69, not VIP Lounge No.77.
04

Chinese Cuisine in Lounges

  • Air China First Class Lounge has the best Chinese food at PVG — dim sum + made-to-order noodles.
  • Cathay Lounge T2 has the Noodle Bar — dan dan noodles and wonton noodles fresh-made.
  • China Eastern lounges serve regional Chinese mains rotating across Cantonese, Sichuan, and Shanghainese flavors.
